There is a war going on in the United States, and it has nothing to do with terrorism or oil. It’s a war that has been building up in the shadows for years, but in the last few months has made its way to the public scene. It’s a war between our controversial new administration and Hollywood.

Our new president is constantly making headlines with some kind of controversy, and celebrities seem to never miss an opportunity to jump on the chance to call him out for something. It’s plastered all over the news, on magazine covers, on social media: the constant outcry of celebrities against President Trump as well as other political elites.

This behavior dates back to the earliest days of Trump’s campaign, and it shows no signs of subsiding. Celebrities have been putting their platform to good use. The question is, have they made a difference? I mean these are people who have millions of fans and followers on social media who idolize them, but is this enough to maybe change the political opinion of some of their Trump-supporting followers? Many say it is.

Hollywood elites have taken to Twitter (Chrissy Tegan, Chelsea Handler, and Sophia Bush are the queens of this) to voice political opinions and call out Washington. A lot of the information they tweet or retweet is information that people who don’t follow politics, wouldn’t necessarily know about. Followers are then better informed when it comes to recent political news.

Now, do the Washington elites see Hollywood as a threat? Probably not, as they’re probably too busy getting through their investigations and law suits to read Twitter. But the public, oh, the public cares. Celebrities who tweet out against alleged corruption in our government get thousands of retweets, creating a unified public opinion against the administration.
