Red Pill Blues was released on November 3, 2017, well over three years after Maroon 5’s fifth album, V, which came out in 2014. Their new album contains 15 songs with five collaborations from various popular artists.
Maroon 5 has been around for over 15 years, making their break with Songs About Jane in 2002. Adam Levine, James Valentine, Matt Flynn, Jesse Carmichael, PJ Morton, Sam Farrar and Mickey Madden are the seven members who worked on this album.
Red Pill Blues is different than their previous albums due to emerging technological differences. All band members were not needed at the same time in the studio; everything went electronic. Maroon 5’s lead singer, Levine, said this album is most connected to Songs About Jane, calling Red Pill Blues its “cousin” during the album’s release party in Los Angeles.
Being such a popular band that has been around for so long has its pros and cons. The 3-time Grammy winning band is still very popular and doing well on the charts. However, with new styles and sounds becoming trendy in today’s music industry Maroon 5 has had to adapt to these changes while still trying to maintain their own style.
This album has the potential to be fans’ favorite one yet. The 15- song record takes listeners on a journey of emotions with smooth, enticing vocals, desirable beats and a hint of acoustics to tie the album together.
Popular songs on Red Pill Blues are What Lovers Do, featuring SZA; Whiskey, featuring ASAP Rocky; and Don’t Wanna Know, featuring Kendrick Lamar. Their new music still has old, original stylistic components that everyone knows and loves but, also does a great job of combining new musical preferences.
Maroon 5 is taking Red Pill Blues on tour, starting in May 2018. Tickets are available now!
