Nothing takes your mind off an impending deadline like being whisked away by a great book. When the work becomes overwhelming, find a cozy spot in the library, get some work
done, then treat your mind with a visit to one of these six fantasy novels.

1. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Flirting with adult themes, this book is perfect for a reader looking for a dark, dreamy romance that isn’t overbearing on the plot of the novel. Follow Feyre as she is transported into the world of Pyrthian after making a mistake that made her a hostage of the High Lord of the Spring Court. There really is nothing like a fae warrior and lots of action to help you escape your responsibilities.

2. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
After Laia’s brother was captured for reasons kept secret by her family, she enlists the help of rebels who promise to get him back. But that help comes with a price, and they want Laia to spy in the Empire’s military academy. With desert battles, hidden powers and a rebellion threatening to overthrow cruel leader, it’s perfect for a boring night in the library!

3. Illuminae by Amie Kauffman & Jay Kristoff
For any fans of galactic battles and dystopian futures, Illuminae is a fantastical sci-fi story about overly powerful AI systems, viruses, space travel and a splash of young love. The story is also told in an alternative format with only text messages and documents to help you speed through it.

4. Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
If you already read and watched Game of Thrones in its entirety but are looking for more, Falling Kingdoms may cure your GOT hangover. Though the series is for a slightly younger age group, it still captures all the complexity of warring families and conflicting desires. A perfect escape from
the boring pages of your essay.

5. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Throne of Glass stars a young assassin taken from her jail
cell by a prince looking for a mercenary to compete in his
father’s competition. A lot more than a battle to the death is
brewing in the castle, and Celaena is the key to it all. Each
twist sucks you in and you’ll keep telling your assignment due
at midnight “just one more chapter.”

6. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
An eternal feud between those with normal, red blood and
those with powerful, ability-gifting silver blood created a rift in society. That is until one red-blooded girl is discovered to
have the powers of a silver blood. You’ll have to find out how it ends once you finish studying for your exam.
Procrastination is never a good idea -- as we have been told time and again, and may have
learned from our own mistakes. However, if you’re looking for an hour or two of down time in
your busy schedule, there are plenty of great books to do the trick!
